On Sunday, HCC decided to close the campus to allow HCC police to put in place heightened security measures in response to a shooting threat made on social media over the weekend.

In addition to the extra precautions at Central Campus, HCC will continue to provide additional security at each of its other campuses while this matter is under investigation.

HCC is working in partnership with local and federal agencies to identify the source and the veracity of the threat at this time. If you are aware of any information that would help, please contact HCC PD at 713-718-8888.  We also ask that any information of a suspicious nature, no matter how small or large, always be relayed to HCC PD immediately. If you see something, say something.

“I want to thank all of the local law enforcement agencies that have played a role in responding to this situation,” said HCC Police Chief Greg Cunningham. “There will be a visible increased police presence around Central Campus. With the security plan we have put in place, we are ready for students to return and focus their attention on their final exams.”

WEATHER ALERT: HCC closed Tuesday, Jan. 16; will provide update this evening about Wednesday, Jan. 17

Due to inclement weather, Houston Community College was closed on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

HCC is monitoring the impact of the current winter weather conditions in Houston and will provide an update this evening about the operating schedule of our facilities for Wednesday, Jan. 17. Stay tuned to hccs.edu and be safe.

A cold front hit the Greater Houston area early Tuesday morning and brought with it freezing temperatures and a wintery mix of freezing rain, sleet and snow, which could fall from Tuesday morning through Wednesday.

While ground temperatures are expected to remain too warm to cause roadways to ice, here are some driving tips from the City of Houston Office of Emergency Management that can help keep you safe in slippery driving conditions:

  • Give yourself extra stopping distance. Wet conditions means it takes longer for vehicles to come to a complete stop.
  • Ensure windshield wipers are in good working condition before heading out on the road.
  • When conditions are wet or dark, be sure to use headlights. Never use high beams in urban areas.
  • While it’s not currently expected, remember that highway overpasses and bridges pose the highest risk of icing. Take extra precautions when driving over them.
  • Slow down. Rain, sleet and snow can limit visibility, giving drivers less time to recognize danger. Slowing down gives provides extra time to adjust to changing conditions.

HCC urges all students, staff and faculty to exercise caution during these cold weather conditions. Be safe out there!
